The Alliance Home & Land Group team of Keller Williams Premier announced June 27, that Central Georgia K-9 Search and Rescue is the recipient of its Alliance Gives Back charity program for the second quarter of 2023.
“My wife and I had the opportunity to attend the group’s training the other weekend and we learned just how invaluable this group of handlers and dogs are to our local community and to the State of Georgia as a whole,” Chris Hewatt said. “It was a privilege to spend the day with them.”
Central Georgia K-9 Search and Rescue is a group of volunteer K-9 handler-dog teams who are dedicated to the training and execution of tracking and trailing (distinguishing and following a person’s scent), live/area (searching for a missing person over a large acreage) and human remains detection (over land and water).
These teams supplement local law enforcement jurisdictions within the state and consist of men and women of all ages and several breeds of dogs, including German Shepherds, Bloodhounds, Giant Riesenschnauzer, Australian Shepherds, Brittany, an English Springer Spaniel rescued from the French West Indies and a mutt named Thor from the local pound.
“The intense focus and determination of these dogs and the dedication of their handlers are truly remarkable,” Hewatt observed. “While all the dogs are all so very different, they all possess the same tremendous work ethic, are ready and willing to please their handlers, and are eager to hear the words ‘Good Boy (or Girl)’ once they make their finds.”
Central Georgia K-9 Search and Rescue also is a 501(3)c domestic nonprofit corporation and relies on the generosity of the public to continue to provide their valuable services throughout Georgia.
