Greene County voters will make decisions during early voting and the May 21 Republican Primary to shape the future. Still, none may have as much impact locally as the three contests for seats on the Board of Education.

The Greensboro Police Department has made its sixth arrest in connection with the drive-by shooting incident that occurred in the area of North Walnut and East North streets in downtown Greensboro in the early morning hours of March 3.

Morgan County deputy Timothy Ryan Saye was dispatched to the area of milepost 104 in I-20 on April 26 regarding a disabled vehicle in the roadway and encountered an unstable woman who had a two-year-old child with her.

Four more arrests were recently made in connection with raids of businesses in January by area law enforcement, bringing the total number of arrests to 17 in Putnam County, according to authorities. Two of the arrestees were out of the country, yet turned themselves in at the sheriff’s office last week.

Greene County Deputy Jonathan Franco has been fired by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for violating the deputy’s oath of office and having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a letter from Chief Deputy Richard Campbell filed in Franco’s personnel records.

Madfest was held beneath overcast skies on April 27, but the event still attracted a large crowd of locals and visitors drawn to Madison for the festivities organized by the city each spring at Town Park.

The widely discussed and reported case of the murders of Russell and Shirley Dermond may still be unsolved on its 10th anniversary, but it is in no way a cold case.
