Jon Funderburke and Maddox Robinson were the heroes of the day, delivering a pair of stellar pitching performances that propelled Lake Oconee Academy to a series sweep over the Emanuel County Institute, securing the team’s place in the semifinal round of the Class A Division II state playoffs.

Last week, the Lake Oconee Academy baseball team added two more accomplishments to its historic season, capturing the program’s first-ever region championship and winning its 20th game.

After losing two of three games to Washington-Wilkes last month, a Tigers’ loss and a sweep of Towns County helped Lake Oconee Academy get back into first place in the region standings heading into this week.

The Lake Oconee Academy baseball team (11-1, 5-0) entered the week ranked No. 5 in Class A Division II.

Lake Oconee Academy is six games into its season and holds an impressive 5-1 overall record. The Titans’ five victories have come against Putnam County, Oglethorpe County, Jasper County, Greene County, and the Academy of Classical Education (ACE).

Lake Oconee Academy’s baseball team had its best season in program history last year by winning 18 games and advancing to the second round of the postseason for the first time under new head coach Mark Miller.

ELLAVILLE – Lake Oconee Academy’s baseball season came to an end last week at Schley County. The Wildcats swept the Titans on Thursday, advancing to the next round of the Class A Division II playoffs.

Lake Oconee Academy baseball has lost five straight games entering this week, its longest streak of the season. The Titans dropped three straight region games to Towns County the week leading up to spring break and also lost two more to a pair of out-of-state opponents in Lexington Catholic (KY) and Mason County (KY) last week.

In a pivotal region series, Towns County easily swept Lake Oconee Academy last week. The Indians outscored the Titans 17-3 in the three-game stanza, which began last Tuesday.

Lake Oconee Academy defeated Aquinas 14-6 and 6-4 last week in the first two games of the series. The Titans were beating the Fightin’ Irish 6-5 during game three, although it was called due to darkness.
