Greene County High School head football coach Darius Robinson has been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) after allegedly choking and hitting several of his players.
The state law enforcement agency released a statement on Thursday.
"The GBI has arrested and charged Darius Terrell Robinson, age 34 of Union Point, GA, with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Simple Battery," it read. "On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m., the Greensboro Police Department requested the GBI to assist with an investigation regarding Robinson hitting and choking several minors who played football for Robinson between September and November 2025."
A source told the Lake Oconee News that Robinson did not return to school after Thanksgiving break.
The Lake Oconee News contacted Robinson on Wednesday regarding an article on the team's All-Region players before the news of his arrest broke, and he provided the newspaper with a quote.
"Congratulations to all the guys making the All-region Team," Robinson said in a text to the Lake Oconee News. "Their hard work and dedication definitely paid off and were noticed and respected by all the other teams in our region."
Robinson had just completed his first season at Greene County. The Tigers went 2-9 overall, but with their win over Lake Oconee Academy on Oct. 24, they locked up the No. 4 seed in Class A Division II's Region 8, qualifying for the playoffs.
Greene County's season ended in the first round of the postseason. Early County defeated the Tigers 43-6 in Blakely on Nov. 14.
Despite the loss, Robinson was excited about the program's future, as the roster mostly featured underclassmen who would return in 2026. He said the team had already started preparing for next season.
“They continue to grow and make strides towards the expectation,” Robinson said. “They already know that the clock for the 2026 season started on Monday. We came back in, got dressed out, and did squats. We worked out, did power cleans, and did our normal deal. In January, we’re going to hit the off-season workout regimen hard, and it’s going to roll right into speed training, and we’re going to go into spring ball. We’re going to look up, and it’s going to be July going into August, and it’s going to be time to play football again.”
The coach also mentioned that he had learned a lot about his team throughout the season.
“They care about the school, they care about this community, and they’re going to work extremely hard,” he said. “Case in point is that many people, at the start of the season, might have just given up or thrown in the towel, but these kids stay resilient amidst my expectations; they have remained steady, and those expectations are going to continue to be unwavering, but they keep showing up, they keep wanting to improve and develop. I’m excited about the future with these young guys now having a year in the weight room under their belts and more coaching being provided, to see what they can showcase on the football field on Friday nights.”
Robinson was hired back in January, replacing former head coach Terrance Banks, who had a 24-8 record in three seasons with the Tigers.
According to a source, Robinson has been relieved of his duties, but there is a process before he is officially fired.
This is an ongoing story. Please check back for updates.
