Warmth and sunny skies were welcomed at Saturday’s annual Southland Jubilee on Main Street in historic downtown Greensboro.
Big crowds from neighboring counties and residents alike enjoyed the food trucks, downtown businesses and restaurants, specialty merchant tents featuring a variety of unique crafts and a classic car show put on every year by the Georgia Classic Cruisers. The event has been held since 1988.
Darryl and Vickie Ishman of Atlanta made a special trip to the Greensboro area from Fulton County, having always wanted to see the city and experience Lake Country. It was a special 45th wedding anniversary trip for the couple.
“We had read up on Greensboro and wanted our visit to coincide with the Jubilee,” Ishman said. “It has been a fun day exploring Greensboro, enjoying the lake this weekend and sampling the restaurants. It is especially nice we happen to have great weather today.”
Visitors had a chance to buy a slice of buttermilk pie, a special treat from The Yesterday Café, as well as old-fashioned churned ice cream, funnel cakes, burgers and hotdogs, barbecue and a host of other classic event fares. The food truck lines remained busy all afternoon as visitors shopped for craft jewelry, framed art and prints from local artisans, colorful clothing and accessories, hammered metal wine holders, art and informational exhibits from Greensboro’s Pete Nance Boys and Girls Club and Oconee Valley Healthcare.
