Seuss on the Loose returns with Putnam Reads

PUTNAM COUNTY

The 11th annual Seuss on the Loose festival is coming up on Saturday, March 1, at Putnam County Primary School on Glenwood Springs Road in Eatonton.

Presented by Putnam Reads, several local businesses and other community organizations sponsor Suess on the Loose. It offers a variety of activities for kids, including a lollipop draw, face painting, limbo, and crafts tables. There’s even a “money machine” to try your luck with.

Of course, colorful Dr. Seuss characters will participate in the event, helping with the Fun Run and indoor activities.

Kids wearing costumes are welcome and encouraged at the Seuss on the Loose event, too.

Bring the family for the one-mile Fun Run with registration at 9 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. race start.

Prizes will be awarded to various age groups, so sign up for the fun run by Feb. 14 to ensure you receive the right-sized event T-shirt.

Registration forms are given to each child in Putnam County primary and elementary schools, at Gatewood, and at four county daycares. They are also available at the Putnam County Library and Health Department.

There also will be a registration form printed in The Eatonton Messenger newspaper. Activities for children of all ages will be held in the school cafeteria from 10 a.m. to noon, where a $10 wristband purchase will give a child access to all the fun Seuss activities and the chance to win raffle prizes.

Leading up to March 1, local school children will participate in an art contest sponsored by the Eatonton Service League. Their work will be displayed during the Seuss on the Loose event and beforehand at various Eatonton locations yet to be announced.

Putnam Reads uses all proceeds from its Seuss on the Loose event to provide registered county children from birth to age five with free, new, age-appropriate books each month.

All children attending Putnam Primary School, Gatewood, and Putnam pre-schools and daycares are automatically enrolled. There will be a registration table at the Suess on the Loose event for other Putnam children.

Donations to support this literacy effort can be made by check payable to Putnam Reads and mailed to P. O. Box 4283, Eatonton, GA 31024.

Putnam Reads, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit; donations are tax-deductible. Significantly, all money raised in Putnam remains in Putnam.
