The members of Phoenix Homemakers of Eatonton have been providing a Santa's Secret Shop at the Putnam County Primary School to allow children who might not be able to get Christmas gifts for their parents or guardians to shop for those gifts.
There is no charge involved and the children are chosen by their teachers and counselors. All Special Education children select gifts. The 'shop' works by allowing Santa's helpers to assist children in making their selections. Then the gifts are wrapped and packaged for the children to take home.
The program was stopped during the time that COVID concerns did not allow visitors in the schools but was started again in December 2022 and continued for December 2023.
Gifts are provided by the club members for shopping and many women's and men's gifts are available.
Phoenix Homemakers also provides wrapped gifts for any women and children who are at Circle of Love for Christmas.
The Phoenix Homemakers Club is open to anyone who would like to join and meets at the Philadelphia Methodist Church on New Phoenix Road on the third Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m. For further information, call Judy Fain at 706- 438-3133.
