Nicholas Jameson is quietly becoming one of the “kings of Kentucky music,” says the publication ‘Whiskey Riff.”
Nicholas Jamerson and his band The Morning Jays will be on stage at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center (MMCC) on Friday, Oct. 24. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the historic auditorium.
Jamerson and his band are currently touring in support of his sixth studio record, “The Narrow Way.”
Jamerson, a Prestonburg, Ky., native, is coming to the Center fresh from a Fort Worth, Texas, gig and is bringing songwriting skills and musicianship straight from an Appalachian culture, family, and self-discovery that has been getting rave reviews.
His new album, according to AmericanaUK, “...is clearly written from the heart; the heart of both Jamerson and his Appalachian home. His is, ultimately, an optimistic message garnered from his undoubted faith and love of family.”
He is also, says Colin Agnew, MMCC Performing Arts coordinator, a rising star in the music world.
Agnew says Jamerson’s family-friendly performances of country rock and bluegrass are selling out across the United States. The band, Agnew says, includes “amazing musicians and great entertainers.”
Jamerson says a life has inspired him, lived in Appalachia, with a family that appreciated music and included guitars and songs at every family gathering.
“My grandmother always had a camera rolling, which taught me early on that life is worth documenting,” he said. “That’s what I try to do through songwriting: turn ordinary moments into something meaningful.”
Jamerson has played both the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
“He is on the rise right now,” says Agnew. “It’s a great chance to see someone who tours nationally on big stages.”
Tickets for the show are on sale now for $35 and may be purchased at mmcc-arts.org.
