Imagine seeing stories and poems transformed into works of visual art. That's the idea behind Paint Between the Lines, an innovative new collaboration between the Georgia Writers Museum (GWM) and The Artisans Village's popular annual exhibition, Dual Vision: Art Through Different Eyes.
Traditionally, the Dual Vision exhibition pairs visual artists with photographs submitted by members of the Lake Country Photo Club, challenging artists to create paintings, sculptures, and other original works inspired by the images.
For Paint Between the Lines, the concept has been turned on its head. Local writers were invited to submit poems, reflections, and short stories, and participating artists selected those works as inspiration for paintings, sculptures, and other original creations.
The exhibition will display each written work alongside the artwork it inspired. In some cases, a single poem or story inspired multiple artists, allowing visitors to see several unique interpretations of the same piece.
The opening reception will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at The Artisans Village Art Gallery, 110 W. Marion St., Eatonton. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
The collaboration continues with the first-ever Read & Reveal program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Georgia Writers Museum. Several participating authors will read their submissions before their artist partners unveil the accompanying artwork and discuss how the written pieces inspired their creations.
The event offers a rare opportunity to experience the creative process from both the writer's and artist's perspectives. Authors and artists will remain after the program to answer questions and discuss their work.
Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to register by visiting the Georgia Writers Museum's website.
