Let the good times Rock & Roll

The Lake Country Chorus presented “Rock & Roll” last Thursday evening at a sold-out Festival Hall.

From the early days of Elvis and Chuck Berry, the Lake Country Chorus took the audience through the ’80s and beyond the rock era in a celebration of music that shaped generations and remains with us decades later. The audience applauded and sang along, and some even got up to dance from their seats.

Many of the songs featured dancers Rusty Faulk, Ellen Marrin, Charlotte Mosteller, Maureen Brower, Andrea Parham, Lisa Owen and Drace Langford.

LCC Director Cathy Williamson had the good times rolling with soloist Reva Alexander and the chorus opening the evening performance with a medley of ’50s “Doo wop” songs.

Music in the first set included: “Bye Bye Love;” “Rocking Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu;” “Don’t be Cruel; I’m Walking;” “Great Balls of Fire;” “Save the Last Dance for Me;” “A Change is Gonna Come,” with soloists LaTonya P. Thompkins and Langford; “California Dreamin’;” “Good Vibrations” with soloists Owen and Bob Williamson; and The Beatles Rewind with soloists Diedre Crawford and Dottie Mitchell.

After a 15-minute intermission, a Forever Motown Medley kicked it back into gear. The second set included: “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman,” with director Cat Williamson as the soloist; “Ain’t No Sunshine;” “I Say a Little Prayer;” “Boogie Shoes,” featuring shag dancers Tony and Paige Payne and Jim and Laura Agee; “Proud Mary;” “Desperado,” with soloist Vern Sumner; and ending the evening to continued loud applause was Queen’s hit, “We are the Champions.”

The Lake Country Chorus was joined by an orchestra of Bob Williamson on bass guitar, Louis Romanos on drums, Brian Smith on guitar, Marc Gilley on saxophone, JoJo Glidewell on synthesizer, Kevin Hyde on trombone, and Karl Liberatore and Timothy Otis on trumpet.
