GREENE COUNTY
The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of the St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Upscale Thrift Store on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 1 p.m. at the store, 4980-B Carey Station Road, Greensboro.
Greene County Chamber of Commerce ambassadors and St. Mary’s leaders, including Trinity Health Georgia President and CEO Stonish Pierce, will team up for the official ribbon-cutting. The grand opening also will feature light refreshments and brief messages from Pierce, Chamber leaders, and Angie Patterson, the professional retail manager who oversees St.
Mary’s thrift stores and gift shops in Greensboro and Athens. In addition, the store will hold door prize drawings and special sales all day long.
The store is staffed and operated by volunteers, and initially will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Patterson expects store hours will expand as more volunteers join. Proceeds from the store will benefit the healing mission of St.
Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital.
Donations of lightly used goods and furniture are accepted at any time the store is open. The store is looking for high-quality, gently used items such as clothing, books, electronics, jewelry, tableware, art, decorative items, collectibles, and good-quality furniture.
Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. If you have questions about what can be accepted, call the store at (706) 453-5009.
“We have a wonderful core group of volunteers who are eager to open the store and love to see all the excitement in the community,” Patterson said. “Volunteering at the thrift store is a great way to support our local hospital while making friends, having fun, and doing good work.”
The Good Samaritan Hospital Upscale Thrift Store has the potential to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to augment funding for services and equipment at the hospital, Patterson notes. A similar upscale thrift store in Athens has generated more than $2 million in sales since it opened in 2008.
“The Athens store serves a larger community, but Athens is also a very competitive market for thrift shops and consignment stores,” she noted. “Even with such a complete marketplace, our Athens store was recently voted the best thrift/ consignment store in Athens by readers of the Athens-Banner Herald.
We can achieve that same level of excellence right here and are excited to serve our community.”
