Georgia-Pacific donates to local firefighters

MORGAN COUNTY

On Oct. 29, Georgia—Pacific (GP) Madison Plywood hosted a catered dinner for about 50 firefighters at Morgan County Fire Rescue.

During the event, GP announced donations of $5,000 to MCFR and $5,000 to the Madison Fire Department.

Following dinner, the mill’s safety team provided its annual firefighter tour of the GP Madison Plywood facility. In January 2025, GP plans to host a dinner and tour for the Madison Fire Department's firefighters.

“The employees of GP Madison Plywood are proud to support and honor the dedicated men and women of the Morgan County Fire Rescue and the Madison Fire Department,” GP plant manager Wesley Stone said of the donations. “These first responders and firefighters serve out of love for helping others, always ready in times of uncertainty and challenge. GP and Koch Industries extend their heartfelt thanks for their unwavering service. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with these agencies and all local emergency services and law enforcement in Morgan County.”

Several individuals representing MCFR and Madison’s fire department thanked Georgia-Pacific for its contribution.

“Morgan County Fire Rescue is grateful to Georgia Pacific for the kind gesture and the financial donation to the department,” MCFR Chief Garret Smith said. “Responding to calls in manufacturing facilities such as the Madison Plywood facility always poses additional challenges, whether a call for a fire, rescue, EMS, or hazmat incident. Georgia-Pacific Madison Plywood has demonstrated its commitment to the community and the safety and well-being of its employees. Morgan County Fire Rescue will continue to foster the relationship with Georgia-Pacific to serve all of Morgan County better.”

“Thank you, Georgia-Pacific, for honoring the City of Madison Fire Department and all the firefighters who put their lives on the line for our safety,” added Madison Mayor Fred Perriman.
