Eatonton Library offers secure pick-up option

Walking into the Eatonton-Putnam County Library, patrons may notice a new, large locker box to the right side of the entrance.

It’s part of Azalea After Hours, a new service also available through the Azalea Regional Library System at Greene, Jasper, Monroe-Walton, Morgan and Sparta-Hancock County Libraries.

“The lockers are a great service for the library because they allow for more flexibility and safety precautions,” said LaChelle Jordan, Eatonton’s library manager. “No matter what the circumstance, with advanced notice we can help our patrons get the items they need.”

The lockers allow the user access to after-hours or contactless curbside pick-up for books and other items. Library patrons just need to call ahead of the closing time to request books or other library materials, and staff will secure the items in one of the lockers for later retrieval.

Library users open the lockers either by scanning their library card or manually entering the library card number on a nearby touchscreen monitor.

The assigned locker door will then open and all items can be retrieved.

“We’ve had the locker for about two months now and it has been very useful,” said Jordan. “It is a very welcomed addition to the library.”

The Azalea After Hours service is ready for use by all local library patrons. To request a curbside pickup or use of the after-hours option, notify the library ahead of time at 706-485-6768.
