Eatonton’s own Rita Harman submitted the winning entry to the annual Georgia Association of Conservation Districts (GACD) Photo Contest.
Harman’s shot of several cows feeding at a farm near Hwy. 16 in Putnam County won the district contest and earned her entry into a statewide competition.
“I had been driving around all day, trying to find the perfect shot and it was getting late when I came across these cows and the trailer with the hay and it all looked just right,” Harman recalled, explaining she first heard of the contest in May, but shot her winning image early in November, shortly before the contest’s deadline.
“I was just glad the cows cooperated with me,” said Harman, a member of the Associated Photographers of Lake Oconee. “It was pretty much my last photo of the day.”
The GACD photo contest was open to any amateur photographer residing in Georgia. Contestants were allowed to enter up to five photos in each of four categories, with judging based on technical merit and composition.
All state-level winning photos are to be put on display at the state USDA-NRCS office in Athens and will be used in future publications.
All submissions, not only winners, are sent to the National Association of Conservation District (NACD) for participation in the NACD Photo Contest.
The mission of GACD is to advocate for the conservation of Georgia’s natural resources by providing organization, leadership and a unified strategic direction to the Conservation Districts of the state.
