The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center presents BOOM! Trio ft. Lahavi on Saturday, April 4, at the Center’s historic auditorium.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the dynamic show begins at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $35 and $15 for students.
They will offer a free music workshop focused on nontraditional trio formats in a neo-soul music idiom, along with a Q&A in the MMCC auditorium at 3 p.m. All ages welcome.
BOOM Trio ft. Lahavi was formed in 2022 when a group of Atlanta’s busiest musicians decided to create a band that plays funk and soul music with a nod to the freedom of jazz.
The group released its first album in March 2024 and has been touring since.
Composed of saxophonist Omcolisi, drummer Robert Boone, Jr., and hybrid-guitarist Kelly McCarty, the group welcomed renowned vocalist Lavahi as an integral part of the group.
Boom Trio ft. Lahavi formed after the musicians learned they “shared a common vocabulary acquired through growing up on the same music,” their bio states. The group has a “deep love for the outer rim of jazz where funk should inform all that they do.”
Lavahi has been called “more than a singer.”
“She is an instrument with the ensemble, creating conversations in real time with her band.”
Madison-Morgan Cultural Center Performing Arts Coordinator Colin Agnew said the innovative and energetic group is sure to bring a sonic sound to the historic auditorium.
“These are world-class musicians, and Lavahi is a vocalist who brings clean energy to a soulful performance. We are happy and honored to welcome Boom Trio ft. Lahavi to the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center,” Agnew said.
