Both sides put aside at least one disagreement in the ongoing battle between the Greene County Board of Education and Lake Oconee Academy following LOA’s most recent Board of Governor’s meeting held at the school on May 6.

Greene County voters will make decisions during early voting and the May 21 Republican Primary to shape the future. Still, none may have as much impact locally as the three contests for seats on the Board of Education.

Greene County Deputy Jonathan Franco has been fired by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for violating the deputy’s oath of office and having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to a letter from Chief Deputy Richard Campbell filed in Franco’s personnel records.

Last week, the Lake Oconee Academy baseball team added two more accomplishments to its historic season, capturing the program’s first-ever region championship and winning its 20th game.

Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) girls’ soccer has wrapped up its regular season and now has shifted its focus toward the postseason. The Lady Titans finished the regular season with a 7-5-2 overall record and a solid 5-1 mark in region play.

The Lake Oconee Academy girls’ tennis team recently captured the region championship. Last week, the Lady Titans knocked off Aquinas in straight sets to win a third consecutive region title.

High school students from Lake Oconee Academy competed on March 8 at the Region 8A-Div.II Literary Meet and were named region champions for the fourth year in a row.

A formal complaint filed by Greene County School Superintendent Dr. Chris Houston regarding enrollment practices for new students at Lake Oconee Academy was sent to the Georgia Department of Education, Federal Programs and Special Education, and the Professional Standards Committee.

Lake Oconee Academy girls’ soccer captured the region title with a 3-2 win over Aquinas on Tuesday, March 26.
