The search is on for the perfect community tree
The leaves are changing color and there is a chill in the air, which means that the holidays are close at hand.
Downtown Greensboro will kick off its holiday season with the Lighting of the Tree from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 2 on the courthouse lawn. The search is on for the perfect tree to help downtown Greensboro celebrate the holidays. City leaders and downtown business owners are looking for a tree that will serve as the town tree this holiday season.
Greensboro’s tree is typically a fresh-cut evergreen. Past trees have ranged from 20 to 30 feet in height. The selected tree will stand on the courthouse lawn in historic Greensboro throughout the holiday season. Organizers hope to have the tree in place by mid-November.

“Last year’s tree was donated anonymously. But this year, it could be your tree that helps to create a festive mood during the Christmas shopping season.”
The community is invited to see the Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 2. An evening of music, food, holiday fun, and of course a visit from Santa will take place from 6-8 p.m. in historic downtown Greensboro. The downtown merchants will stay open for business into the evening hours with special sales and merchandise just for the holiday season. Many will even offer treats like hot chocolate and cider for shoppers.
The downtown merchants are ready to help you get all of our holiday shopping done – without the hectic traffic and crowds of your typical shopping plaza.
Come discover that shopping is meant to be enjoyable as small-town service and a friendly face greet you at the shops of downtown Greensboro.
Local groups and organizations are invited to participate in the Tree Lighting program. Choirs and groups are needed to provide special music throughout the evening and local non-profits and craft vendors are invited to get involved by providing special holiday goodies.
