Madison Police Chief William “Bill” Ashburn has retired, and the city has hired an interim chief while it searches for a new permanent replacement to run the police department. After 42 years in law enforcement, the Ashburn recently announced his retirement.

GDOT meeting to update Highway 44 plans

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has called a public meeting May 7 to present slight changes made in the project to widen Highway 44 to four lanes through Greene and Putnam counties. The Public Information Meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m.

Victim life flighted to Grady after I-20 crash

A man who has yet to be identified by local officials was involved in a crash April 22 and later life-flighted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. According to Morgan County Fire Chief Garret Smith, the man was attempting to merge onto the eastbound lanes of I-20 from Exit 121 near Buckhead when his SUV struck the rear of a flatbed tractor trailer that was also getting on the interstate.
