Folk art rock star Peter Loose played the part of the Pied Piper to 10 young artists at the MAGallery on Main Street last Saturday.

Using scissors, glue, colored paper and a little watered down acrylic paint, Loose and the kids created funky fish galore. The kids had a great underwater adventure learning about scales, gills, fins and folk art fun, and their finished works of art reflect the joy Loose takes in working with young, budding artists.

Following the art workshop with the youngsters, Loose held a painting demonstration for a small crowd of folk art fans.

While he was working on one of his paintings, an audience member confessed to having no painting skills.

Loose responded by saying, “You don’t need skills, you just have to do it.”

Loose's award winning art will be on display through Feb. 28 at the gallery where he showcases his love of all things scaly, feathery and furry. His energetic signature style brings dynamism to his portrayal of owls, roosters, bluebirds, snakes, spiders, hens and bunnies. And who doesn't love snakes and bunnies when they're covered in dots, squiggles and curly-q's?

If this show just whets your appetite for more Peter Loose, attend MAG's spring fundraiser, Fashion Meets Art on the Runway and bid on a darling denim dress painted by Loose in his inimitable style. The event will be held Friday April 27 from 5-7 p.m. at Madison Variety Works. Tickets are $40.

We can't wait to see it walk down the runway!

MAGallery is located at 123 South Main Street, 706-342-
