Madison Studios received the 2017 gold award for website design in the medical field from world- wide web consortium, W3.

“W3 is the watchdog and sets standards for the whole world-wide web,” Creative Director Chris Cook said.

It is the innovative approach of featuring original water-color paintings on a website designed for Gumucio Plastic Surgery, Athens, Georgia, that won the local web design and digital marketing company the honor.

“We just took a totally unique approach,” Cook said.

Cook brainstormed an alternative to providing before and after shots, photos of doctors and pictures of women in nightgowns. The surgeon wanted something different and wanted to take a more modest approach. Since Cook is an artist by nature, the surgeon’s office suggested that Cook provide his own artwork for the website. This is the first time the artist has integrated fine art with graphic design.

“It is thrilling to put the two together,” Cook said and stated he believes this is one of his best website designs.

“W3 Awards honors creative excellence on the web, and recognizes the people behind award-winning sites, marketing programs, social content, mobile site/apps and online video,” according to a press release on the company’s website.

The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from companies including Disney, Microsoft and Facebook, judges the entries.

“The creativity and quality of this season’s entries raised the bar once again. As our connected world continues to expand in new and exciting ways, our winners are a true testament to the power of Web creativity across the world,” AIVA’s Director Derek Howard said.

Madison Studios won a silver W3 award in 2008, and has won 28 awards for web design in total.

“We don’t mess around. I think we have a great product,” Cook said.
