The Lake Oconee Academy basketball teams hosted their first home games last week.

After being on the road twice during Thanksgiving week, the Lady Titans hosted Georgia Military College last Wednesday evening.

LOA trailed 15-9 through the first quarter. The Lady Titans struggled for the first few minutes of the second quarter but snapped out of it to cut GMC’s halftime lead to 27-17.

Unfortunately for the Lady Titans, GMC opened things up a bit in the third period and took a 45-27 lead into the fourth. LOA’s defense stiffened in the third quarter to hold back the Lady Dogs and make the final score a more respectable 53-38 loss.

The Lady Titans snapped a two-game losing streak with a home win over Lincoln County last Friday, 50-23.

Sophomore Kirsten Reece paced LOA with 17 points, followed by freshman Destiny McClendon’s 15-point effort. It was a well-rounded effort by the Lady Titans, as all but two players who attempted shots scored at least 1 point.

LOA’s girls lost Saturday at Athens Academy, 52-45, and played at Aquinas this past Tuesday. They will return to action next Tuesday at Hancock Central.

The LOA boys team wasn’t as fortunate as the girls last week, dropping three games to fall to 0-4 on the season.

The Titans lost their home opener against GMC, 72-28. Lincoln County beat them, 66-42, and Athens Academy was victorious over LOA, winning 66-46.

LOA’s boys also played at Aquinas on Tuesday and will face Hancock Central next week.
