Rafe Slate ranked 14th in the nation

Eatonton’s own Rafe Slate is coming off a successful run of races as he prepares for Thursday Thunder.

Slate, who races in a Legends car as part of the U.S. Legends Series, recently competed in a handful of offseason races. The races, known as the Furious Four, serve as a warm-up for the famed Thursday Thunder series. Thursday Thunder will not begin until June 1, but Slate looked in mid-season form throughout the offseason.

At a March 25 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Slate finished third among semi-pro drivers in the race. Days later at Crisp Motorsports Park, located in Cordele, Slate again finished third among semi-pros. Slate posted a second-place finish at CMP on April 22 and again on May 6.

The best finish Slate recorded this offseason was first among semi-pros at the April 8 race at CMP. In total, Slate’s runs in those races netted him 482 points.

That total has Slate sitting in third in the points in Georgia, behind only Cody Hall (852) and Hudson Halder (612). Those two drivers were able to compete at Winter Nationals, though, which is held each year in Inverness, Florida. Their schedule is more loaded, allowing them more opportunities to earn points, making Slate’s third-place ranking even more impressive.

As far as the national rankings go, Slate currently sits at No. 14 in the country. He is part of a national semi-pro class that consists of 107 drivers.

Thursday Thunder will kick off June 1 and run every Thursday through Aug. 5 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This will be Slate’s second year competing in the series.
