Morgan County athletics wins three region titles during monster week
Last week was a wildly successful one for Morgan County High School athletics.
Morgan’s baseball team was the first of three Bulldogs athletic teams to clinch a Region 8-AAA title last week. The Diamond Dogs roughed up East Jackson last Tuesday afternoon for a 15-0 mercy-rule win. The victory gave Morgan baseball a then-11-2 region record, which was good enough to take the region.
Over at Bill Corry Stadium the same evening, the school’s soccer teams were putting in strong work against East Jackson, too. The Lady Dogs took down the Lady Eagles, 6-0. Their win locked up the No. 2 spot in Region 8-AAA. The Lady Dogs dropped the regular season finale last Friday at Apalachee, 5-1, and were awaiting their postseason fate as of press time.
Morgan’s boys soccer team, however, clinched the region championship later Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over East Jackson. The Bulldogs capped off a successful regular season with a nine-game winning streak. As of press time, the boys’ soccer team’s first state
On Thursday, the Morgan girls tennis team won the Region 8-AAA crown in its region tournament, which was hosted in Madison. The Lady Dogs knocked off Franklin County and Jackson County to win the region championship. The big wins gave the girls tennis team a state playoff berth. The Lady Dogs hosted Murray County this past Wednesday in the playoffs. The boys tennis team earned a third-place finish in the region and played at Bremen this past Tuesday.
