The Tigers finally got in the win column.
Greene County’s football team notched its first win of the 2019 season last Friday with a 49-9 blowout over Georgia Military College Prep. The win improved the Tigers’ record to 1-3 and helped them avoid their first 0-4 start since 2012.
Senior running back Ant Elder enjoyed a breakout performance. Elder rushed five times but made the most of his carries by posting 165 yards rushing and two touchdowns. D’Myron West scored two rushing touchdowns, too, and finished with 77 yards rushing.
Desmond Dunn completed two of his three pass attempts, one of which was a 59-yard strike to West. Greene’s final touchdown of the night came via a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown by Demetrius Mitchell.
The defensive side of the ball was just as strong as the offense.
The Tigers allowed only 96 yards of total offense. Fred Hall, Dexter Tripp and West each recorded a fumble recovery. There were no interceptions, but Laregis Williams (2), Elder, Mitchell and Troy Hall posted pass breakups.
Devyn Giles had six total tackles, including two for a loss. Jaquon Hull recorded two sacks while Jermontay Kendrick, West and Dunn each recorded one.
Greene hopes to keep its winning ways going this Friday when it hosts Warren County. The Screaming Devils come into Friday’s game with a 2-3 record, including a two-game losing streak. In the all-time series, Greene holds a six-game winning streak against Warren.
