Morgan County Sheriff Robert Markley announced on May 11 that three inmates incarcerated in the Morgan County jailed tested positive for COVID-19.
However, the disease seems to have had no impact on any of the inmates as none of them manifested any symptoms of the virus before or since the tests were administered.
On May 2, all inmates and staff at the Morgan County Public Safety Complex were tested for COVID-19 by National Guard personnel, one of the first such agencies in the state to undergo such a thorough testing protocol.
No staff members at the facility tested positive for the virus.
Markley asked for additional testing to confirm the results were not false positives.
In the meantime, Markley said his personnel are following CDC and health department guidelines and working with a doctor to care for inmates.
