A couple hightailing it around Eatonton in a moving truck is now in jail, and their young child is in the care of family members.
Eatonton Police Chief Kent Lawrence said officer Howard Clemons clocked a U-Haul truck traveling 87 mph in a 55 mph zone on the Eatonton Bypass Monday morning. The officer had the driver of the truck pull over and discovered the driver’s license was suspended.
Eatonton Police Investigator Howell Cardwell arrived to assist Clemons and found a Schedule III drug in the truck. Schedule III drugs include CNS depressants, CNS stimulants, anabolic steroids, barbiturates and others.
Both adults told officers they did not know where the drugs came from; and because neither claimed them, they both were charged with the possession, Lawrence said.
The couple had a 3-year-old boy with them; and while his mother was being arrested and taken to jail, Lawrence called in the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services. A member of DFCS sat with the boy at the police station until family members arrived to take him, Lawrence said.
Michael Jason Biddex, of King Mountain, N.C., was charged with misdemeanor speeding 87/55, driving while license withdrawn, drugs (not) kept in original container, and felony possession of Schedule III controlled substance. Bond was set at $20,000.
Amanda Brooke Boone, of Lawndale, N.C., was charged with misdemeanor drugs (not) kept in original container, and felony possession of Schedule III narcotic; bond was set at $12,000.
