Sarah Onita Branyan Askew of Eatonton, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro at the age of 81.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at McCommons Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Wayne Usry officiated. Interment followed in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro. Serving as pallbearers were: Johnny Lewis, Keith Branyan, Horace Askew, Jody Maddox, Wayne Sisson, Danny “Pee Wee’ Beasley, Dustin Churchwell, Jason Grubaugh and David Beasley.
Nita was born in White Plains on April 21, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Sarah Marie Howell Branyan. She attended school at Meadowcrest. On May 9, 1974, she married Gene Tunis Askew. For many years she was the owner and operator of Lakeview Restaurant at Lake Oconee. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed yard work, camping and all of her pets. Nita was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Branyan.
In addition to her husband, Gene Askew of Eatonton. She is survived by a son, Butch Ellis of Eatonton; two daughters, Connie Cluff (Randy) of Eatonton and Tina Sisson and husband Wayne of Greensboro; brother, Dickie Branyan of Buckhead; four grandchildren, Hope Beasley and husband Danny, Mandy Churchwell and husband Dustin, Shanni Yearwood and husband Tommy and Sean Ellis and wife Kaitlin; eight great grandchildren, Chance, Tucker, Kyle, Kaylee, Harper, Graham, Brantley and Brody; a number of other relatives and friends and her beloved dog, Tinkerbell.
