Reuben Mason Worthen of Union Point died Saturday, Oct.5, 2019, at Greene Point Health Care & Rehabilitation. He was 75.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, with Rev. Bruce Lovin and Rev. Jim Olds officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until time for the service at the church.
A lifelong resident of Union Point, he was born on Dec. 2, 1943, to the late Scenie Davis Worthen and Clotyle Moss Worthen. He graduated from Union Point High School. After high school, he began his working career as a forester with ITT Rayonier, which later became Rayonier, and he retired in 1996. He married the former Pat Farmer of Oglethorpe County on July 18, 1962. He was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church of Union Point, where he served as chairman of the Deacons held numerous other positions and participated in all activities of the church. Reuben was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Reuben was predeceased by his brothers, Howell Worthen and Malcom Worthen.
Reuben will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Pat Worthen of Union Point; his children, Kenny Worthen of Union Point, Ray Worthen (Latamy) of Union Point, Steve Worthen (Melba) of Clovis, N.M., and Bob Worthen (Sirisa) of Union Point. Reuben will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Morgande Harris (Glen), Justin Worthen, Megan Burton (Austin), Emily Davis, Mason Worthen, Makayla Worthen and Thor Worthen; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ann Hunt; and by his great-granddaughter, Lydia Rosecrans, whom he raised.
