This has not been an easy year to stage a fundraiser, but the Humane Society of Morgan County, a nonprofit no-kill shelter, still needs funds to do what it always does: rescue cats and dogs and find forever homes for them. To that end, the HSMC is holding the Pistons for Paws Parade and Car Show on Sept. 20.
Participants will begin gathering in the Walmart parking lot at 11 a.m., and the parade will get underway at 12:30 p.m.
Golf carts will line up in the parking lots of Conner’s NAPA and the yoga studio on Eatonton Road.
The entry fee is $20 plus one of the following: a container of liquid laundry detergent, bleach, Purina dry puppy food, Purina Cat Chow, scoopable cat litter or a $5 gift card from Ingles or Walmart.
You don’t have to drive an all-original 1969 Camaro or a replica of the Batmobile to enjoy the fun. Any type of car, truck, motorcycle or golf cart can be part of the parade, even your 1994 Toyota Corolla.
The money raised helps to feed, vaccinate and provide medical care for the animals and support the staff and take care of the facility.
“That $20 really goes a long way for us,” volunteer Beth Bradley said. “And when you donate something, we don’t waste it.”
Barbecue will be provided by Crowe’s and Scoops will be on hand to provide dessert.
