Madison FUMC offers virtual VBS to community children

With the community still cautious with COVID-19 and group gatherings at bay, Madison First United Methodist Church is offering a summer-long “Virtual Bible School” for preschool, primary and elementary-aged children. The program is free to the community and includes Bible stories, crafts and activities that will be given to children and parents to take home and participate.

“One of the summer highlights for the church and for many children is attending Vacation Bible School,” said Debbie Britt, children’s minister at Madison FUMC. “While we aren’t able to make VBS look quite the same this year, we wanted to make it just as impactful. We are hopeful families from throughout the community, not just our church, will join the fun.”

While Madison FUMC typically hosts 150 children at VBS and preschool VBS each summer, this summer they are offering a program in keeping with COVID-19 precautions. The plan is to offer an in-home VBS and to equip parents, grandparents and older siblings to lead the fun. There will be a weekly theme based on “God’s Promises for Kids” and all sorts of lessons, online videos, inclusive craft packets, mission projects and instructor guidelines to help make the summer meaningful and creative to children.

Parents and grandparents are asked to register their children either online or over the telephone and they will be given instructions on how to pick up the VBS Packets for in-home VBS. Ashley Johns is the volunteer in charge of this year’s Vacation Bible School and explained that registration helps Madison FUMC ensure a packet for each child, and give us contact information for special surprises throughout the summer. Registration is free and can be made on line at

Virtual VBS will run each Wednesday beginning June 10 through July 22, though a commitment to Wednesdays is not necessary and can be done on one’s own schedule.

The community is encouraged to sign their children up and give them a meaningful lesson for the summer. For more information, visit the Madison First United Methodist Church website at, email or call 706-342-3325, ext 4.
