Lucy Annette Bustin Dowdy, 75, of the Veazey community, died Monday, July 15, 2019, at Legacy Health & Rehab in Greensboro.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, July 19, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main St., Greensboro, with Rev. Mark Jones officiating. Interment followed in Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Cody Lord, Trevor Dowdy, Sean Dowdy, Cory Lord Adrian Rimes and Bill Crawford. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Dowdy, Alvin Dowdy, Billy Crawford, Ray Copelan, Ray Marchman and Billy Byce.
Annette was born Dec. 18, 1943, in Greensboro. She was the daughter of the late Rosa Ruth Hammond Bustin and Russell Wilson Bustin. Annette attended grammar school in Siloam and graduated from Greensboro High School with the class of 1961. On June 16, 1961, she married Robert Daniel Dowdy. For many years she worked with her husband at Dowdy’s Grocery in the Veazey community. As long as health permitted, Annette was an active member of First Baptist Church of Greensboro and Agape Amicus Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Sunshine Club. Annette was talented in many ways, but she really enjoyed cooking, farming, yard work and wagon trains. She cherished most her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Crawford.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Daniel Dowdy of the Veazey community; daughter, Lucy Lord and husband Dave of Lake Oconee; sons, Marty Dowdy and wife Patti of Greensboro and Terry Dowdy and wife Michele of McDonough; grandchildren, Daniel Dowdy (Sara), Libby Dowdy, Brianna Lord, Cody Lord, Cory Lord, Trevor Dowdy and Sean Dowdy; and a host of other relatives and friends.
