Lake Oconee Academy recently conducted a food drive supporting the Greene County Food Pantry.

Their hard work resulted in 1,750 pounds of food and $80 in gift cards presented to the Greene County Food Pantry. This is four times more than the last drive for the Food Pantry.

A big thank you goes to the four outstanding members of the Beta Club that helped the most. Keerti Ahluwalia, Rylee Oyler, Austin Nelson and Kiefer Cooper were instrumental in leading this drive conducted in the first half of November.

“Thank you, LOA and the Beta Club for supporting us in this time of need. With the holidays on us, this additional food will be welcome to our clients” commented Tonya McWhorter, coordinator for the Greene County Food Pantry. “It’s great to see young people giving back to the community.”

The Greene County Food Pantry supports a large community of people in need: children, low-income families and senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older. It serves over 1,000 individuals representing almost 500 families each month. Clients who live in Greene County are eligible to apply for food. The Food Pantry is a 501©3 non-profit organization.

Tax-deductible donations are needed and can be mailed to Greene County Food Pantry, PO Box 697, Greensboro, GA 30642. People who would like to donate food or volunteer to help in this effort, should call the Food Pantry Staff at 706-453-1380 or e-mail them at
