Five teams from Lake Country entered the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 6 pickleball tournament held at the Tattnall Square Pickleball Center in Macon.
Here are the results:
• Charles Eisele and Don Hill, Silver in Men’s Doubles
• John Davis and Susan Merrell, Gold in Mixed Doubles
• David and Tracy Trvdy, Silver in Mixed Doubles
• Ray Brindley and Diane Johnson in Mixed Doubles
On Aug. 10, the Greene County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved SPLOST funding to upgrade the outdoor tennis courts at the Greene County Recreation Center. This will provide four lighted tennis courts with eight overlay pickleball courts.
Tennis teams from our high schools and Lake Oconee Tennis Association anticipate putting the courts to good use for practice and league play. Pickleball players from across Lake Country are also excited with anticipation to use the new courts expected to be in service by early October.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and the Tattnall Square Tennis Center converted 10 tennis courts to 17 pickleball courts and has paid for the construction in less than two years. They are now planning to upgrade their five remaining tennis courts with pickleball overlay courts.
The pickleball competition of the Georgia Golden Olympic Games will be played in Warner Robins this year, where upgrades to their facilities have been completed to accommodate pickleball which has been played in Griffin, the last several years.
