Scattered rain showers and lightning delays couldn’t stop the 2021 12u OZONE Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament this past weekend.
All of Lake Country’s teams participated in the action at Bill Wood Park in Madison.
Putnam, Morgan and Greene Counties all took part in this past weekend’s tournament and made noise in the process.
Putnam County, in particular, was the only team in the entire tournament who received a first round BYE. After Morgan County defeated Dublin 8-4 in its first round matchup, the two bordering counties squared off on the diamond.
Morgan couldn’t build off of its momentum for their win and lost to Putnam.
As a result, Putnam moved on to the next round of the tournament while Morgan moved to the bottom of the bracket.
Meanwhile, Greene County couldn’t get past the first round initially. They lost to Perry 10-3. But, they didn’t lay down and quit after that.
Having to win two straight games to be back in the thick of things, Greene County defeated Columbia County 14-13.
They followed that up with a 5-4 victory over Jones County.
Now, Greene County will face off against Putnam County on Friday.
Though the tournament started this past weekend, it is still currently going on. All remaining teams will continue playing games to decide a winner this upcoming week on Friday, July 16, and Saturday, July 17.
A champion will be crowned on Saturday.
Check out next week’s Lake Oconee News to find out if any of the three Lake Country teams take home the crown.
