Joe Bennie Evans (Bennie) departed this life on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2020, at the Eatonton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside Service was held Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Free Gift Baptist Church, Eatonton, GA.

Bennie was born in Eatonton, GA, on May 14, 1930, to the late Inez Evans and Harvey Bustion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luvenia Evans, whom he met in 1957. The two shared more than 50 years together. Bennie attended school at Pinkerton Grove and White’s Chapel Baptist Church schools. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. Bennie was an active member of Jefferson Sons Masonic Lodge #242, until his health began to fail. He was a longtime dairyman for Russell Copeland at Copeland’s Dairy. Bennie started his own trucking, logging, and hay bailing business and remained self employed for many years. He enjoyed hunting wild game. One of his most favorite pastimes was attending the Air Force Air Shows in Warner Robbins, GA. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing in local lakes and along the Jacksonville, FL coast. Bennie was loved by his caretakers so much that they voted him King for a day. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; Agnes, Hamp, and Jimmie Lee (Bruh).

Bennie leaves to cherish his memory: five children, Johnny Lee Evans (Bernice), Dorothy Evans, and Evelyn Bustion (Willie), all of Eatonton, GA; Shirley Dennis of Atlanta, GA; and Mary Denise Evans of Toledo, OH; fourteen grandchildren, Stacey Evans and Roderick Reid of Atlanta, GA; Tyrone Dennis of Charlotte, NC; Victor Evans, Sonja “Sharell” Banks (Alexander), Johnika Evans, Dontrell Welch, Tersondra Bustion, Alisha Evans, and Valencia Bustion, all of Eatonton, GA; Darnell Evans, Ebony Evans, Porchia Chatman (Rod), and Calisha Evans of Toledo, OH; forty-one great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
