High school football season will be back sooner than later, and Monday provided another sign that it’s almost time to hit the gridiron again.

The Georgia High School Association officially announced its member schools’ football schedules for the upcoming season. The first week of the regular season will be played Aug. 23. The regular season will conclude with games on Nov. 8. This year will once again see Lake Country’s three GHSA member programs – Morgan County, Greene County and Putnam County – play each other under Friday night lights.

Morgan County’s football team will open its season against Loganville High School for a second-straight year. The Bulldogs will wrap up the season with a home bout against Region 8-AAA rival Hart County. Morgan’s entire schedule is as follows:

Aug. 23 – vs Loganville

Aug. 30 – at Greene County

Sept. 6 – at Walnut Grove

Sept. 13 – vs Oconee County

Sept. 20 – BYE

Sept. 27 – vs Monroe Area

Oct. 4 – at Jackson County

Oct. 11 – vs Franklin County

Oct. 18 – at Jefferson

Oct. 25 – BYE

Nov. 1 – at East Jackson

Nov. 8 – vs Hart County

Greene County enters year two of head coach Larry Milligan’s second tenure with the program. The Tigers will enjoy a bye week the first week of the regular season, which has been the case for the past few years. Their season will conclude with a road matchup against a Class A Region 7-A Division A team to be named later depending on records. Here is the entire Greene County schedule:

Aug. 23 – BYE

Aug. 30 – vs Morgan County

Sept. 6 – at Putnam County

Sept. 13 – BYE

Sept. 20 – vs Mount de Sales Academy

Sept. 27 – vs Georgia Military College Prep

Oct. 4 – vs Warren County

Oct. 11 – at Hancock Central

Oct. 18 – vs Lincoln County

Oct. 25 – at Aquinas

Nov. 1 – at Washington-Wilkes

Nov. 8 – at TBD (region crossover game)

Finally, Putnam County football will compete for the second consecutive year under the direction of head coach Shaun Pope. Like Morgan, Putnam will start the season right away with a game in the first official week of the GHSA schedule. The War Eagles will finish the year with a home game against Region 8-AA foe Oglethorpe County. Their entire schedule includes the following:

Aug. 23 – at North Oconee

Aug. 30 – at Temple

Sept. 6 – vs Greene County

Sept. 13 – BYE

Sept. 20 – at Rabun County

Sept. 27 – vs Union County

Oct. 4 – vs Monticello

Oct. 11 – BYE

Oct. 18 – at Social Circle

Oct. 25 – at Banks County

Nov. 1 – vs Elbert County

Nov. 8 – vs Oglethorpe County

The GHSA recently announced it is moving the football state championships from Mercedes-Benz Stadium to Georgia State Stadium, which was formerly Turner Field. The home of Georgia State’s football team will host this year’s championship rounds thanks to the high cost of renting Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons.

Should any of the Lake Country teams reach the championship round, they will play on either Dec. 13 or Dec. 14.
