The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with several recent automobile break-ins around the lake area.

According to Captain Lee Stancil of the GCSO, Liam Moran Carter, 18, of Greensboro has been charged with 11 counts of illegally entering an auto and is incarcerated at the Greene County Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office launched its investigation when two vehicles were entered in the Park Place community off of Lake Oconee Parkway Feb. 15. The window of one vehicle was shattered.

Four more vehicles were entered near the Glen off of Linger Longer Road following another three cases in the Del Webb subdivision, according to Stancill.

A break in the case came when one of the victims said they were contacted by a good Samaritan who found credit cards belonging to the victim outside of the Walmart in Oconee County.

When GCSO investigators learned of this development, they reviewed surveillance footage of the Walmart parking lot and identified Carter as the one who threw the credit cards down outside the store.

After an interview with Carter, investigators Justin Anderson and Sgt. Don Smith were able to recover some of the property stolen from the vehicles, including a weapon.

Carter was then taken into custody and charged with the. crimes.

Additional charges from another jurisdiction are expected, according to Stancill.
