Gatewood track back in action
If Mother Nature stays calm
Mother Nature didn’t cooperate with the high school track season last week as the Gatewood Gators track teams were rained out of a home meet on Wednesday.
This Wednesday, Gatewood will be back in action as they host Bethlehem, Briarwood, John Hancock, John Milledge, Thomas Jefferson, Trinity Christian, Westfield and Winsor at the Robert Graham Track and Field Complex beginning at 3:30 p.m.
“Last Wednesday was a wash out due to the threat of severe weather. I hope that we can get back on the track this week,” said Gators boys coach Jeff Ratliff. “Rain is in the forecast, but we will make every effort to have a meet. I will say this: Even though Wednesday’s meet got cancelled, we had one of our best practices of the year that afternoon. We must continue to find ways to get better.
“I expect some really good competition. I am looking forward to seeing us compete at a high level.”
As for the Lady Gators after a week off, head coach Jordan Camp is looking for continued progress in all facets of track and field.
“We expect the hard work and progress to continue. We are pretty solid in our running events but we need to continue to improve our field events,” she said. “The girls continued work with proper technique should become more evident Wednesday.”
