Doris Brand Sauser, age 91, of Greensboro, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018 at noon at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, with Rev. Rob Tinney officiating. Interment followed in Bay Creek Cemetery, 4170 Bay Creek Church Road, Loganville, at 3 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are David Weikers, Joshua Grainger, Jackson Bedenbaugh and Cannon Bedenbaugh.

Born in Grayson, on May 10, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Guy Brand and Bama Maude Couch Brand. On December 21, 1945, she married Henry Calvin Grainger and later married William Irwin Sauser, Sr. on April 19, 1980. Most of her life, she resided in metro Atlanta before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in 1980. She returned to Stockbridge, in 1991 to live at The Villages at Eagles Landing, and in June of 2016 she moved to an assisted living community at The Harbor at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton. Her chosen career was as an insurance underwriter, retiring from The Continental Insurance Company. Doris served as President of the Atlanta Insurance Women’s Club in 1972 and was awarded Insurance Woman of the Year in 1974. She enjoyed a second “career” working with her son’s firm, Skyline Courier & Logistics, as office manager until one month shy of her 80th birthday. She was active in her church communities throughout her life with many years at Lakewood Heights Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Training Union, and WMU member (Women’s Missionary Union), serving as its president for a time. Her later years were spent as a member of Eagles Landing Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being a greeter on Sunday mornings until age made this too difficult. She was very proud to be an avid Atlanta Falcons fan, holding season tickets for more than four decades, and she was a voracious reader.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah G. Payne and her husband Marvin; a son, John L. Grainger and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Jennifer Payne Bedenbaugh and her husband Craig, Joshua L. Grainger, T J Schott, Tiffany Blair, and Brandy Sisson; great grandchildren, Jackson Bedenbaugh and Cannon Bedenbaugh; two stepchildren, William I.
