Morgan football fell to 1-2 last week in an overtime loss
One week after winning a tight contest against Greene County, Morgan County’s football team was not quite as lucky.
The Bulldogs lost to Walnut Grove last Friday, 34-31, in overtime. The defeat dropped Morgan to 1-2 on the season.
The game was tied 7-7 through the first quarter but, in the second, Morgan inched ahead, 21-14. Walnut Grove tied it up in the third and, after both teams scored a touchdown in the fourth, Walnut Grove outscored Morgan 6-3 in the fourth quarter to take the game.
Morgan quarterback Trent Folds went 17-for-30 with 195 yards passing. Folds had two touchdowns and one interception.
Kobridgette Lumpkin led the Bulldogs’ rushing attack with 58 yards on 11 carries. Lumpkin and Keirreon Farley each recorded one rushing touchdown.
Jordan Huff (nine receptions, 130 yards receiving) and Seth Robertson (four catches, 10 yards) had receiving touchdowns to their credit.
Senior kicker Finn Williams went 1-for-2 on field goal tries. His successful attempt was a 36-yarder.
On the defensive side, Morgan struggled containing Walnut Grove’s winged-t scheme.
The Warriors put up 285 yards on 57 rush attempts. Their four touchdowns were all earned on the ground. Morgan did shut down Walnut Grove’s few pass attempts, however. The Warriors completed one of five passes for seven yards. Farley picked off one of those attempts.
Morgan returns to action this Friday at Oconee County. This will be the Bulldogs’ final non-region game.
