On Saturday, May 16, 2020, we celebrate the life of our beloved father, Cleveland Butts. He was known to his children and grandchildren as “Daddy,” and to relatives as “Cleve.” Cleveland Butts’ life was a story of hard work, caring, and devotion to God and his family. Cleveland was born in Putnam County on October 4, 1932, the son of Starling “Buster” Butts and Minnie Dennis Butts. Cleveland grew up and was educated in the Putnam County School System. Once he met the love of his life, Euria Dorothy Butts, the Lord allowed them to spend 60 beautiful years together. He was a loving and devoted husband. Their union was blessed with eight children and sixteen grandchildren. A gifted man, Cleveland’s talents included fishing, hunting, and farming. However, he did his best work and received his greatest joy in spending time with his family. In fact, he helped raise and rear most of his grandchildren, providing priceless guidance and love to them all. Each of his grandchildren still treasures all the wonderful lessons he taught them, and they thank God for him daily. He was truly the wind beneath their wings. Cleveland endured if he could, but God called him home to take his rest on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. Although he is dearly missed, his family is happy that he has finally taken his place with the Lord. Cleveland Butts is preceded in death by one son, Alfred C. Butts; three sisters, Minnie Lee Collins, Rosa Mae Lawson, and Odessa Butts; two brothers, Tommy Lawrence and James Henry Butts.

To cherish his loving memory, he leaves his devoted wife, Euria D. Butts; one brother, William Butts; and seven children, Charlie R. Butts, Elaine Butts, Velma J. Butts, Milton C. Butts, Angela Butts, Ronnie Butts, and Luther Troy Butts; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Professional arrangements entrusted to Hurt’s Funeral Home of Eatonton.
