Morgan's boys basketball team had a strong showing during a Thanksgiving tournament last week
Morgan County’s boys basketball team gave its fans plenty to be thankful for last week.
On Black Friday, the Bulldogs began a Thanksgiving tournament, dubbed “Holiday Hoopsgiving,” held at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta. Morgan won both of its games across Friday and Saturday.
The Bulldogs knocked off Pebblebrook, 70-64, last Friday afternoon.
Senior Alec Woodard led the way during that contest. Woodard, who recently signed a scholarship to Austin Peay State University, dropped 23 points and notched five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Fellow seniors Stevin Greene and Tyrin Lawrence excelled as well. Greene scored 18 points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Lawrence scored 18, too, with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
On Saturday night, Greene stole the show with 29 points, powering the Bulldogs to an 82-67 victory over St. Francis. Lawrence bested his first-game output, too, with 19 points while Woodard scored 17.
The Bulldogs hope to keep up their dominant start this Saturday when they take on Gainesville. That game is scheduled to be held at the University of North Georgia at 6:30 p.m.
Next Tuesday, Morgan jumps into Region 8-AAA action with a game at Franklin County. The Bulldogs’ first home game is set for Dec. 11 against region foe East Jackson.
