The DNR estimated well over 1,000 boats were on sunny Lake Oconee on Saturday, Sep 5th for a Freedom Boat Parade.

One of the organizers, Todd Ciavola, said “The intent was to show support for President Trump and generate excitement for his reelection.”

Not only were the boats from homeowners who live on Lake Oconee but many were trailered from the surrounding area. Several Lake Sinclair residents who participated in a similar event there the previous weekend, were there with their boats and flags.

Assembling in front of the Ritz Carlton, the armada journeyed down towards the dam, turning and proceeded to “The Island” off of Reynolds Plantation and then back to the Ritz. Boats joined in all along the route. Other than the water being a bit rough from all the boat traffic, everyone enjoyed themselves. A few smaller boats did take on some water but others quickly came to their aid and even towed a couple back to their docks.
