Barbara Jean Boullain, 63, of Greensboro, GA, passed away at her home peacefully in the early hours of Oct. 19, 2021. She was tended in passing by her loving and devoted caregiver, sister-in-law, Karen Boullain, who kept her vow to be by Barbara’s side during her valiant battle with Glioblastoma. Throughout this 18 month journey, the two women became devoted sisters, until death do us part. Also tending to Barbara at the time of her passing was her beloved dog, Lucas, who gave her much love, companionship and adoration. He stayed by her side constantly in her final days. A good and loyal dog.

Barbara was born on July 3, 1958, in Queens, New York to Eugene Charles Boullain and June Augusta Milhaupt Boullain. She previously resided in Mahopac, NY and Newburgh, NY before relocating full-time to Greensboro in early 2019 after having been a part-time resident since 2013.

Barbara graduated from Pascack Hills High School, Montvale, NJ in 1976 and obtained a bachelor’s degree from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA in 1980. Physical fitness and nutrition were her passion, she was a general manager for Sportsplex (Newburgh, NY) and co-owner of World Gym (Pleasantville, NY).

When she wasn’t spending hours at the gym, she could be found fulfilling her other passion, gardening and landscaping. Having been featured numerous times for best of the best garden tours in New York, she created a business Bar Bou Co Landscape Designs, offering her knowledge and love for beautiful landscaping to others who respected her keen eye on design and visions.

Barbara met and fell in love with the love of her life, Michael Joseph Costa and they married on July 19, 2003. Mike had told Barbara that he didn’t want to live his life alone. With 3 girls from 23 to 12, and Mike’s son Matt, Barb laughed and told him, “I can take care of that one for you!” Blending two families into one ensured Mike rarely had alone time, and the best days of their lives were spent surrounded by an ever-growing clan that expanded to 7 grandkids in 5 years.

When Barb and Mike purchased their home in Harbor Club, they both quickly became involved in the community, developing fast friendships and playing as much golf as the weather allowed.

Barbara was active in the Harbor Club Women’s Golf Association, the Harbor Club Ladies’ League, Mah Jong, Bunco, Trivia, as well as pickleball. Barb had only two speeds – 100mph and park.

Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Kimberly Keil (Jared) from Easton, CT, Lindsay Ralph (Harry) from Danby, Vermont and Jaimie Picard (Phil) from Hoschton, Georgia and a stepson, Matthew Costa (Emily). She was always so proud of her children’s accomplishments, but mostly the grandkids that made her Mimi. She will be greatly missed by her grandkids Allison, Dylan & Alex Keil, Tyler & Jeremy Ralph, and Justin & Valerie Costa.

Barbara leaves behind her brother, Richard Boullain and wife Karen of Greensboro, GA and her “other brother,” Gene Boullain and his wife Carol of Blue Ridge, GA. Also left to mourn her passing are many nieces, nephews, & great-nieces.

Her many friends will feel her loss most acutely, as she was an ever-present participant in any activity. Please know she loved you all.

Her family would like to send their deepest appreciation for those who cared for Barbara in her time of need, including neighbors Joe and Debbie, Pat, Mary Beth, but most importantly, Karen, for her love and devotion to ensure the utmost care was given to Barbara during her long battle and courageous fight with Glioblastoma. The family would also like to thank the excellent medical care provided by Dr. Erin Dunbar and her team at the Piedmont Brain Tumor Center.

Barbara was predeceased by the love of her life and devoted husband Michael J. Costa on November 23, 2018, her mother June Augusta Milhaupt Boullain on Oct. 3, 2013, and her father Eugene Frank Boullain on March 11, 1985. Also predeceasing her were her beloved English bulldogs, Luca I and Luca II.

Should you wish to honor Barbara’s memory, the family respectfully requests that you consider making donations in Barbara Boullain’s memory to The Piedmont Brain Tumor Center or to the Oconee Regional Humane Society.
