On May 25, Memorial Day, the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge held a Memorial Day program to honor those veterans who have died in service to this great country. The Elks also dedicated the new Veterans’ Wall, located in front of the Lodge. Boy Scouts Troop 30 conducted a flag retirement ceremony.

Read morePutnam County High School student Leeah Collins is the 2020 Minnie Tallulah Walker and Willie Lee Walker Scholarship recipient. A student contributor to The Eatonton Messenger during her junior year of high school, by her senior year, Leeah was serving as a stringer for the local newspaper. She was honored with this scholarship in recognition of her stellar academic career and dedication to working for the benefit of others. The committee was especially inspired by Leeah’s efforts to give voice to those whose stories need to be told, her commitment to being an agent of change and her belief in the power of public education to lift up and enrich the lives of future generations and the entire Putnam County community.
